Holy Toledo! It is already July 22, 2010. My summer, as usual, is getting away from me. I haven't had "summer vacation" in years. I have always had to work during the summers-especially for the last 16 years. That is our "busy" time for our business. I have managed to get away for longish weekends, but the general rule is, "Take vacation during the fall and winter when we aren't working!" Darn it, anyhow.
So, what, exactly, do I do? I manage a company that inspects, tests, and treats utility poles (common name-telephone poles-even though most utility poles are power poles). I do the day-to-day stuff for the business. Things like payroll, taxes, data-entry, balance the books, invoicing, preparing bid packages, investigating insurances, paying the bills, and generally being bored. How many more years can I do this? I don't know. As long as I have to, I guess.
I really would rather read, weed the garden, sew, or some other such thing. My husband keeps trying to sell the easel he bought me, because "you never use it." So? I also have a piano that he bought me, and a collection of carousel animals that I refuse to put up (until I have a glass case for them). They are mine; I love them, even if I don't use them.
We all have things we love and don't really need/use/look at, don't we? I do turn my books over, though. I mostly use my Kindle for books, but occasionally I want part of the collection that goes together. Jodi Picoult books, for instance, or Harry Potter books. Maybe the Twilight Saga. But if the story doesn't stay in my mind, out it goes.
Getting back to what we have that we don't need/use/look at. I think there is some kind of rule of thumb for that stuff. But, I am getting to the age that the kids are thinking about Mom's stuff, and what they would want upon my demise. Face it; it is gonna happen. Decide ahead of time who is going to get the piano, the carousels, the emerald, the pearls. I don't have lots-but what I have means something to me-for whatever reason.
So, this was random. It was my first blog. What did you think?
It was great!! :D
